Sour Diesel is a legendary cannabis cultivar that came out of upstate NY in 1996. Derived from the legendary west coast Dog Bud, Sour was one of first gassy cannabis varieties to emerge on the east coast. By the early 2000s, Sour Diesel had developed a small constituency of loyalists. High demand and low supply led to extremely high prices. By 2005, Sour dominated the east and west coast markets. The living plants were known to fetch as much as $20k for a single clone. Whether you were in the Hamptons, or the Bronx, you were trying to get Sour. By 2012, due to the influx of low priced California products, cannabis markets began to collapse. This drove a lot of east coast growers, many of whom were producing Sour, out of business… hence the illusion that Sour was gone. To further complicate the situation, many charlatans were pushing counterfeit Sour Diesels in order to opportunize on the demand. Despite all this, some true Sour heads continued to grow it and still do today.
Nowadays, the legend of Sour has been elevated to mythical proportion. Like Bigfoot, or the Loch Ness Monster, some choose to believe it’s real, and some don’t… and some even spend all their time on the internet casting insult upon anyone who dares to say they have it.
To them I say: do your best, because the real Sour is coming to a NY licensed retail store near you this fall.
